GPSR COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATE

Compliance Requirements

Product Category: Firearm accessory non-mechanical (custom pistol grips, intended for adult use only)

Applicable Legal Requirements:

  • General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988

Applies to all consumer products where no specific harmonised legislation covers the item. Ensures the product, under normal and foreseeable conditions of use, does not present health or safety risks to users.

  • REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006

  • Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals.

o Relevant for potential SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern) in any adhesives,                   coatings, lacquers, or surface treatments.

o Annex XVII applies to restricted substances (e.g. lead, cadmium, formaldehyde) in                     articles or surface finishes.

o A full SVHC compliance check should be confirmed by supplier documentation or                    material declarations.

  • Persistent Organic Pollutants (EU) 2019/1021

Controls the presence of hazardous pollutants such as flame retardants, heavy metals, or plasticisers in components. The pistol grips are not expected to contain such substances, but raw materials (acrylic, coatings, plastics) should be checked for compliance.

  • Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (94/62/EC)
If the product is packaged for retail, this regulation governs material safety and recyclability of the

packaging, including heavy metal content limits.

  • Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS) only applicable if any electronic components or connectors are added (currently not applicable for this product, but note in case of future design changes involving sensors or LEDs).

EU Harmonised Standards Applied to Meet General Safety Requirement: There are no product- specific EU harmonised standards for custom pistol grips. Therefore, general safety principles under GPSR apply.

Other Reference Standards Applied to Meet General Safety Requirement:

  • EN 71-1:2014 + A1:2018 Mechanical and physical properties (used by analogy to assess small parts and sharp edge risks, though this is a non-toy product)

  • ASTM D4236 (Labeling of Hazardous Art Materials) Used for labelling guidance if any inks, paints, or finishes are used that may pose chemical exposure risks

Risk Assessment & Safety Compliance

The Salvatore Walnut Wood Handle Pistol Grips for Sig Sauer P226 were evaluated across six hazard categories: physical/mechanical, flammability/thermal, chemical, electrical, hygiene, and radiation. The assessment found that the product, when used as intended and labeled appropriately, does not pose unacceptable safety risks under Regulation (EU) 2023/988.

Key findings:

  • Physical/Mechanical Hazards: Risks such as sharp edges, small parts, or improper installation are addressed through design (smooth finishing, proper fitment), clear labeling, and warnings. No moving parts or sharp projections are present.

  • Flammability/Thermal Hazards: While wood and acrylic can deform or ignite under extreme heat, these risks are mitigated by user warnings to avoid high-temperature environments.

  • Chemical Hazards: All materials are either naturally stable or expected to comply with REACH Annex XVII and SVHC requirements. No chemical hazards are anticipated under normal conditions of use.

  • Electrical Hazards: The product contains no electrical or conductive components. Any aftermarket electronic modification would fall outside the manufacturer’s scope and responsibility.

  • Hygiene Hazards: The product’s surface is sealed and smooth, allowing easy cleaning. It is not designed for prolonged skin contact, and the materials used are not known irritants.

  • Radiation Hazards: No radiation is emitted. Risks related to UV exposure and reflection are minimal and addressed through product warnings.

Overall, the design, materials, and labeling of the pistol grips demonstrate conformity with general safety requirements under the GPSR. Remaining risks are low and mitigated through proper labeling, responsible use, and packaging practices.
